Mary Katherine Lee ‘Katie’ Hassler

 “Katie” (Mary Katherine Lee) Hassler passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at CMMC in Lewistown. Katie was born on June 29, 1937 to Aaron and Doris (Barnes) Shull in Lewistown. Katie graduated in 1955 from St. Leo’s High School. After graduation, she attended St. Benedicts College in Ogden, Utah where she studied medical records. She became a medical record technician and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital after graduating.  

In 1957, she met Fred Hassler while working at St. Joseph’s. Katie and Fred were married April 23, 1960 at St. Leo’s Church in Lewistown. Katie and Fred moved to the ranch at Hilger, Montana in 1968.  In 1977, Katie returned to work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, retiring from Central Montana Medical Center in 2002.

Katie enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends and loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She liked to help where needed at the church, Hilger Bazaar, and Women’s Club events and other community activities.

Katie is survived by her husband (married 57 years), Fred of Hilger, Montana; son, Dirk (Jane) Hassler; daughters, Debbie (Michael) Rankin, Tracy (Paul) Myers, and Terri (Gary) Amberg; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and only living brother, Dan (Kay) Shull. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Doris Shull; brother, Bob Shull; and sister, Doris Elliott.

A viewing time will be held Saturday, May 6 at the Creel Funeral Home Chapel from 4-6 p.m. Parish Vigil and praying the rosary will be Sunday, May 7 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church at 6 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 8 at the church at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to CMMC Hospice or to the Winifred Ambulance.
