Katherine Jackson Seilstad

Katherine Jackson Seilstad, 95, passed away in Billings, Mont., of natural causes Feb. 19, 2017. She was born Dec. 27, 1921 to George and Kate Jackson in Lewistown. Katherine grew up in Lewistown, graduating in 1939 from Fergus High School. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., graduating in 1946 in elementary education and worked on her Master’s Degree in religious studies at Northwestern University.

When both of her parents became ill, Katherine returned to Montana where she taught a couple of years before quitting her job to assist her sister, Margaret, with the full time care of their parents. A year after her parent’s death, the Jackson sisters met and later married two Seilstad brothers from Denton, Oscar and Marvel. Marvel and Katherine married Jan. 13, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewistown. Later that year they celebrated the birth of their twins, Scott and Susan, and in 1955 welcomed another daughter, Kay.

Katherine devoted her life to raising her family, and in later years her greatest joy became her three grandchildren, Kelly, Kendra, and Matt.  She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, bible studies, and loved to read, which she was able to do right up until her death.

She is survived by her three children: Scott (Denise) Seilstad of Denton, Susan Seilstad of Billings, Kay Seilstad near Rochester, New York; three grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Markovich of Missoula, Matt (Kira) Benzel of Henderson, NV, Kendra Seilstad of Chinook; two great-granddaughters, Lacey Katherine (Kelly & Mike) Markovich, and Isabelle Sophia (Matt & Kira) Benzel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvel in 2007, her parents (George and Kate Jackson), sister (Margaret Seilstad), and brothers (Robert and Jim Jackson).
