With one conference game in the season remaining for Fergus, Park and Browning, the three boys’ basketball teams are tied for second in the Central A conference with identical 3-4 win-loss records. Saturday night’s contest in Livingston will have a great deal of importance to the three teams involved in post-season play at the Eastern A Super-divisional in Billings. The winner of the Golden Eagle-Park matchup will avoid playing in a loser-out contest on Wednesday.
Seven wrestlers from Fergus High School earned a trip to the Class A State championships held in Billings on Thursday and Friday. Five of those seven came home with state medals, but each one of them probably figured to do better at this year’s state meet.
Wrestling is a relatively new sport for Fergus’s Tanner Mannin. Mannin, a junior, has only competed in wrestling for two years, but this year he was good enough to place at the Class A State Meet, held at the Metra in Billings.
Mannin wrestled at 120 pounds. After finishing fourth at the Eastern A Divisional in Glendive the week before, Mannin finished sixth at state this past Friday and Saturday.
Rabecca Lynn, a sixth grader at Hobson, taught herself how to shoot free throws.
“I watched and learned from others,” said Rabecca about her ability.
That ability is now paying off for Rabecca. She heard this year about the Elks Hoop Shoot contest and decided to try it out.
After a one-year hiatus, the District 8C Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Tournament returns to Lewistown. The District 8C Tournament, which features seven girls’ teams and seven boys’ teams, begins at the Fergus High School Fieldhouse on Thursday with six games on the docket.
This weekend marks the end of the regular season for Class C basketball. Next Thursday, the District 8C Tournament begins at the FHS Fieldhouse at noon. The Lewistown Tournament Committee has been busy getting ready for the tournament for the past several months. With good fan support from the Lewistown area, the committee looks to put on another top-notch tournament for District 8C. Good luck to all the teams in District 8C.
Chad Beck fired a 1238 to take the lead in the singles’ event during the second weekend of the Budweiser Handicap Bowling Tournament at Snowy Lanes in Lewistown. Beck is followed by Jason Stennett of Lewistown with a five-game total of 1210. In third place is Havre’s Pat Newton with a score of 1208. First weekend leader Rod Wesselmann of Lewistown fell into a tie for fourth with Tim Schultz, also of Lewistown, at 1203.
